Chuning and I went to the Gentle Monster exhibit on Friday and were really interested in the collection of moving sculptures throughout the store. The most interesting aspect of exploring the store was looking at each of the moving sculptures and then trying to figure out how the components worked together. I also appreciated the variety of materials used from wood, metal, to very organic colorful pieces.
I think the biggest thing I took from this visit was seeing how one motor can be used to move many different moving parts. I really enjoyed the simplicity as well as complexity of all of pieces. Using one motor, but having a well designed gear system that allows for the sculpture to have an interesting movement.
This visit definitely inspired me to want to include more complicated motor and gear systems in my project due to my realization that its not actually as hard as it looks.
