Blindness

My readymades project is a pair of trippy, kaleidoscope glasses placed facedown onto a table connected to a piece of paper. The idea is that the viewers see these glasses as something colorful and beautiful to try on, however once tried on, their vision is blocked by the unremovable piece of paper. The different orientation of the glasses being face down as well as being connected to an external object all simulate ideas that this pair of glasses is not one that can be viewed through, as entertaining as the thought may seem.

For my final presentation of the project, there were a few questions pertaining to the accessibility of the project. I believe that as a medium, paper is not durable enough to be suitable in a permanent exhibition, so for the future I have decided to change my project’s style. I would rather have a bunch of different colored glasses oriented onto a wall, all at different heights, so the viewers of my work can walk into the glasses, hoping that there is something to be looked upon, only to discover that the glasses provide no sort of vision.

This will affect the user experience by having many pairs of glasses that all users can “try on”, by walking up to the wall and looking through the lenses. This will further affect my idea of a beautiful fantasy that only brings blindness upon the viewer, by having multiple pair of glasses that entice the entire audience to interact with the sculpture.

I believe that the idea behind my readymades sculpture is precise and deeply oriented, however a slight change in presentation and form will make the profound meaning even more accessible to any viewer.
