The Library of Babel
The description of this library as an infinite space that contains all the possibilities of every sequence of information in the universe reminded me a lot of the library in the tv series The Magicians. As the universe continuously expands and develops, there is a library that is constantly writing books about all of the possibilities of what will happen, as well as the stories of every character in the book that we call life. The repeating nature of information occurs once all the possible combination of atoms have occurred and every possibility of physical reality has been experienced, then the universe must once again repeat its past and turn that into the future.
This library is definitely a metaphor for the universe. The earth itself could be viewed as a living library, one set in motion and one that is written everyday as we create new realities and possibilities through action. One where every door, every bookshelf, and every hexagonal room represents a new experience and input to our senses. An entirely new possibility that lies with every new step one takes.
One concept I thought about is how infinity is presented in this text. Infinity is a given. I don’t think we will experience afterlife in a way where we are physically conscious of the fact that we have moved to a new reality and that we had came from one before, but I believe that the essence that we we have already been carrying since the birth of the universe will continue in a different expression of energy. Energy is never created or destroyed right?
A discussion brought up in this text is the search for truth. I don’t believe a deliberate search for truth happens on the outside. Any outward search is a search that is for something viewed on an objective scale. Everything that happens is not for much more than its whimsical quality, and if the universe is only seen in a rational right/wrong perspective, everything will be seen out of scope. Truth is not an objective thing but rather something that varies based on an individual’s own personal universe, which is just as important as the total universe.
I think the universe exists the way it does because the conscious element of space and time didn’t want to be quarantined. And once it started doing stuff, things happened, and here we are.
